The popular Nissan Tiida, now in its fourth year of production, will offer a host of enhancements and an attractive new pricing structure in its 2011 model.

The 2011 Tiida will go on sale with a bigger 1.8-litre engine but at the price of the previous 1.6-litre models, said a statement.

With over one million global sales to date in 165 countries, Tiida is Nissan’s best selling model and also one of its most awarded, too, it said.

The 2011 Nissan Tiida is available in 5-door Hatchback and 4-door Sedan body configurations.

The exterior of the Tiida Hatchback and Sedan, with their long 102.4-inch wheelbases and short front and rear overhangs, feature a dynamic look and attention to detail, as seen in the large halogen headlights, revised signature Nissan front grille and large taillights.

The Tiida exteriors also feature body-color front and rear bumpers and body-color dual remote-controlled outside mirrors, the statement said.

For 2011, Nissan is equipping all Tiida models as standard with the 127hp 1.8-liter DOHC 16v 4-cylinder engine which delivers responsive power with excellent fuel economy. Two transmissions are offered – a 6-speed manual or an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic with overdrive.

However, Tiida retains its economical nature with fuel economy of approximately 13.5km/L for the automatic transmission models, it said.

Having, just prior to this drive of the 2011 BMW X1, spent so much time in the very challenging (on so many levels) BMW 5 Series GT, we're grateful to have been brought back to our preferred BMW comfort zone with another example of the Ultimate Driving Machine.

After we had our initial privileged go at a BMW X1 prototype in May, we were really pleased with the vehicle's dynamics but there were few deeper facts to relate. BMW experts kept mentioning the Volkswagen Tiguan as a competitor for the forthcoming X1, but that is certainly mostly a European market concern. To forget the Acura RDX, Infiniti EX35 or Lexus RX 350 in the U.S. market would be foolish. Not to mention the Audi Q5, Land Rover LR2 or even the Cadillac SRX. Maybe a Nissan Rogue could fit on that shopping list if something less than $28K was preferred.

But every one of those other crossovers is noticeably bigger than the 2011 BMW X1, particularly in overall height. The X1 turns out to be truly a unique piece. There's plenty of space inside for four humans (or five if you must) — their heads, their shoulders and their cargo. Yet the X1 is configured to ride lower than other crossovers and thus shows off some crisp Bavarian dynamics, while the exterior look is nicely faithful to what we expect to see when staring down a BMW.

A good number of the updated Jaguar XKR's supplied action shots show the coupe sideways with a cloud of smoke in pursuit. While this alludes to variety of improvements for the 2010 model year, the most noteworthy must be the new engine -- a 5.0L V-8 with a Roots-type supercharger.

Also on the new XFR, the V-8, with 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque, eclipses the previous-gen 4.2L by 90 hp. Jaguar increases its performance claims as a result, dropping the 0-to-60-mph acceleration to 4.6 sec from 4.9 sec. A loss of one mpg in highway fuel economy is the only downside to the newfound power; the 2010 XKR returns 15/22 city/highway mpg.

Above the new engine are two louvers, opposed to the center bulge in the hood. Jaguar revises the rest of the bodywork to reflect the "R" designation a bit more thoroughly as well. The 2010 model receives a new front bumper, featuring adjusted air inlets and chrome trimmings, while the truck gains a subtle spoiler and LED taillights. Jaguar sprinkles more LED lighting around the rest of the exterior, from the side markings to the twin reverse lamps to the foglamps. Where the vehicle connects to the ground, 19-in., 10-spoke wheels are standard while 20-in. wheels remain an option.

Many believed talk of Audi’s future mid-engined Cayman rival was pure fantasy but then details about the carmaker’s future lineup were published by Quattro Quarterly (a publication released by the Audi Club of North America) and one of the cars on that list was in fact the long rumored R4. Set to appear in June 2011, the new R4 will get its own unique platform and will likely appear in both coupe and roadster bodystyles.

Like the R8, the new R4 will feature aggressive styling and will only be able to seat two. Several engine options will be on offer as this won’t be an exclusive supercar like its bigger brother. Expect to see a range-topping model with a high-output turbocharged mill developing in excess of 300hp. Base models, meanwhile, will make do with an uprated version of the 2.0L TFSI engine.

As this rendering suggests, the R4 will pick up some styling cues from the recent A1 Metroproject concept car as well as share many similarities with the bigger R8. Although it doesn’t have the familiar side-blades, the R4 still features a pair of gaping vents positioned in front of the rear wheels. The chassis will feature steel construction but engineers are targeting a final kerb weight of around 1,250kg, and although the mid-engined Boxster and Cayman seem like the most obvious competitors Audi officials insist the new car is designed to rival vehicles from BMW’s M division and AMG.

Mercedes is developing an all new platform upon which the new generation of A and B-Class and a number of totally new models will be built. A mid-size four-door coupe called BLS, and a new compact SUV, the BLK, are some of the upcoming products on this platform. Here;s an artist’s impression of the Mercedes BLK, which will challenge BMW X1 and the upcoming Audi Q3.

The BLK probably will be released in 2011 as a 2012 model, until then Mercedes has enough time to study strength and weakness points of the rivals and use them to its advantage. Mercedes already has a compact SUV called GLK, and BLK certainly won’t be much smaller than it, but the GLK is on the par with BMW X3 and Audi Q5, so Mercedes needs a new model to take on the new smaller crossovers such as the X1, which has also received a warm welcome in the market.

Like the GLK, Mercedes BLK will be available with either two or four wheel drive, but it’s not likely for it to get six cylinder engines. Compact SUVs are meant to be economical, so we can expect a range of four cylinder engines for it, both petrol and diesel, in different displacements some of them with Kompressors. It is also quit possible that a hybrid variant to come out later on.

Recently redesigned, the SL-Class remains the most premium Mercedes roadster. For the latest model year this German luxury automakers has reduced the offerings from two non-AMG models to just one, ditching the SL600 in the U.S. market.
The biggest changes to the SL line following the update are to the front of the car. The vehicle now has CLS-style headlamps to complement the new bumper and grille. Meanwhile, the taillights have been augmented with LEDs and a refined shape.

The SL550's engine remains unchanged, with a 5.5-liter V8 delivering 382 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 391 pound-feet of torque between 2,800 and 4,800 rpm. Although, the latest model enjoys a slight bump in fuel economy to 14 city, 22 highway.

Both the improved fuel economy and quick zero-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds can give some thanks to the seven-speed automatic transmission.

The car's steering system has been improved to feature a variable rack ratio, which adjusts in line with the steering angle, increasing sharply as soon as this reaches five degrees. All of which means that, compared to a steering system with a constant ratio, the driver does not have to move the steering wheel as much when cornering.

Since its inception, Nissan has had a winner on its hands in the form of its Murano crossover, which first went on sale in 2003 as a 2004 model and helped popularize the crossover segment. The Japanese automaker is obviously hoping to build on that success with the substantially reworked 2009 Murano making its world bow the 2007 Los Angeles auto show.

The new Murano features a slightly revised version of Nissan's now venerable 3.5-liter V-6 VQ series engine, which is rated at 265 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque -- up 25 horsepower and four lb-ft over the outgoing model. Nissan's second-generation CVT with the automaker's Adaptive Shift Control system is the only transmission offered.

The front-drive-based Murano is built on Nissan's new D-platform, a version of which is found underneath the 2008 Altima. Nissan claims the new vehicle has one-and-a-half times more torsional rigidity than the outgoing model, along with improved NVH ratings. The suspension reportedly makes "extensive use" of aluminum components to help lighten the Murano's mass, although its final curb-weight ratings have yet to be announced. A refreshing change is that the five-passenger Murano is not significantly larger: At a length of 188.5 inches, width of 74.1 inches, and height of 66.9 inches, it's just 0.9 inch longer, 0.1 inch wider, and 0.4 inch taller than the model it replaces.

Underpinning the Murano's revised suspension geometry is a subframe-mounted independent front strut setup with stabilizer bar in tandem with an independent multilink rear with another stabilizer bar. Other vehicle systems include speed-sensitive power steering, power-assisted vented front and rear disc brakes with ABS, and Nissan's Standard Vehicle Dynamic Control and traction-control systems. Yaw Moment Control is a feature available on higher-end, all-wheel-drive-equipped models.

It has two transmission options: a 5-speed manual or 4/5-speed automatic transmission (pre-2005 models have a 4 speed automatic, whilst 2005 Sorentos come with a 5 speed tip-tronic style automatic transmission). Sorentos are equipped with a Hyundai-manufactured 3.5L 24-valve DOHC V6 producing 192 hp (143 kW) at 5500 rpm, and 217 lb·ft (294 N·m) of torque @ 3,000 rpm. The Sorento is very capable off-road, with an automatic four-wheel drive system featuring low range gearing. The Kia Sportage is a compact crossover SUV built by the Korean automaker Kia Motors since July 1993.
The first generation Sportage was developed with a Mazda Bongo engineering base platform. It shares many mechanical components such as the engine, transmissions (early), and differentials with the Mazda line of vehicles. This was during the alliance of Ford-Mazda-Kia for technology and product sharing in the early to mid-1990s.

Sportage was sold in either a four-door or a two-door soft-top convertible. The four-door version also had a long chassis body (Sportage Grand) in Asian and Australian markets. The long chasis models came with 10 inches (250 mm) longer boot space in the back. The first-generation Sportage was discontinued in North America for 2002, worldwide for 2003 except for Pakistan (Asia) it continued till 2004, later it was put on hiatus until a second generation model was ready. The four-door short chassis model measures just a quarter of one inch longer and the same width as the Geo Tracker, but boasts 130 hp (97 kW) and optional four wheel drive. The 1998 Kia Sportage was the world's first production vehicle to be equipped with a knee airbag. This first generation model (1993–2002) sold in low numbers even domestically in South Korea, however, and post-Hyundai takeover models (1997–2002) were recalled twice for rear wheels dismounting while driving.

From 1995 to 1998, the Sportage was built by Karmann in Germany and European buyers only received German-built versions, while the rest of the world received Korean-built versions.

Here's a car that's hard to think about in rational terms after spending 100 miles in the pilot's seat. You drive a CLK55 AMG around (windows all down unless it's raining, because it just looks so cool with no B-pillars), whipping its 362 horses to a shiny lather and bending its taut but supple chassis hard into every conceivable ess and kink in the road, and you emerge thinking: What're the child slavers paying for a firstborn these days? I must have this car! Then you glance at the eye-watering $82,025 sticker price, and suddenly a lifetime of tardy Father's and Mother's Day cards seems the better deal.

Ah, but the rational cars at your tony tristar dealer don't wear the AMG badge. These cars are different. Brutal. Special—only 1500 CLK55s will be sold here this year. Their engines are hand-built (we built one for a story last March: "Yes, They're Hand-Built," page 59). Their performance is holistically upgraded from lesser CLKs-engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires-and the results are spectacular.

Introduced late in the 2003 model year, this CLK55 AMG is powered by the same 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V-8 that motivated its predecessor, tuned for 20 more horses (freer breathing brings the total to 362), with torque holding at 376 pound-feet. The reinforced five-speed automatic features AMG's Speedshift programming. Sport and comfort modes adapt shift points and firmness to differing driving styles, or press a button for manumatic mode, and the driver can control shifts via the lever or via buttons on the back of the steering wheel. In this mode it remains more manual than most Benzes, upshifting to prevent over-revving but never downshifting at wide-open throttle.

Underneath, AMG shocks, springs, and anti-roll bars lock down the body and quicken response rates without punishing the passengers. In a nod to ride plushness, the rubber is modest: 225/45 fronts and 245/45 rears on 17-inch rims (oddly enough, wider tires are available on the base CLK Sport package). Big 13.6-inch-front and 11.8-inch-rear brake rotors are grasped by four-piston-front and two-piston-rear monoblock calipers.

All this hi-po hardware shoulders a hefty load. Our option-laden example burdened the scales at 3808 pounds. That's 414 pounds up on the CLK's most obvious competitor, the 333-hp BMW M3 (which costs between $48,195 and $60,780). The six-speed manual M3 is geared way shorter than is the automatic CLK, and it revs 1500 rpm higher (to 8000), so both cars shift at nearly the same speeds, leading one to favor the M3 in a drag race. But the CLK's V-8 out-torques the M3's six by 114 pound-feet, and this pulls the CLK ahead of the last M3 we tested by 0.1 second to 60 mph (4.7 seconds) and by 0.4 and 2 mph through the quarter-mile (13.2 at 107 mph). Of course, if you're willing to close the M3-to-CLK55 price gap by $17,798, aftermarket tuner Steve Dinan can close the performance gap (see page 112). It's also worth noting that the new CLK55 runs 0.2 to 0.3 second quicker than its 288-pound-lighter predecessor.

That acceleration is accompanied by a glorious baritone engine note—you know, somewhere maybe a third of the way up the scale between a bass Chevy big-block and a soprano Ferrari 360. The chassis behaves beautifully, too, providing good isolation from small impacts while cleaving tightly to the road over dips and humps. The new rack-and-pinion steering even tickles the fingertips with a reasonably detailed accounting of what's happening down at the contact patches (although the feel remains a touch numb just off-center). The brake pedal feels firm and reassuring, even after repeated overuse. Trouble is, with all this mass and those relatively small tires (the BMW wears 18s with 255/40s in the rear), the handling limits are modest: a sensible-shoes 0.80 g and a ho-hum 173 feet to stop from 70 mph (the M3 manages 0.87 g and 161 feet).

Throughout most of the 1980s and '90s, Mercedes seemed to focus strictly on the business side of the luxury spectrum. With the exception of one stratospherically priced roadster, style seemed to be a secondary concern, and there was nary a two-door to be found. The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class put an end to that. Born as a coupe first and a cabriolet (convertible) second, the CLK combined a curvy, low-slung body with four-seat practicality at a price digestible to the moderately wealthy masses. To no one's surprise, it was a hit.

More recently, however, Mercedes decided to replace the CLK with the similar E-Class coupe and convertible. But this two-door Benz remains an appealing pre-owned option. Offering refined road manners, a sufficient amount of sportiness and the expected levels of Mercedes-Benz luxury, safety and prestige, the CLK is certainly worth considering.

Most Recent Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Models

Produced from 2003-'09, the second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class debuted in coupe form as the CLK320 (215-horsepower 3.2-liter V6), CLK500 (302-hp 5.0-liter V8) and CLK55 AMG (362-hp 5.4-liter V8). Convertible equivalents to all three joined for 2004. In 2005, the CLK500 switched from a five-speed automatic to the current seven-speed automatic transmission, and this was also the last year the CLK55 AMG was available in coupe form (and the year the navigation system switched from a CD-based to a DVD-based unit).

For 2006, the CLK320 became the CLK350 (268-hp 3.5-liter V6) and also got the seven-speed, while in 2007 the CLK500 and CLK55 converted to the CLK550 (382-hp 5.4-liter V8) and CLK63 AMG (475-hp V8), respectively. For 2008, the AMG coupe returned, but only in limited-edition "Black Series" form with a 500-hp V8, a track-tuned suspension and a six-figure price tag. Both the CLK63 AMG and the Black Series were dropped for 2009.

Notable standard equipment on the CLK included alloy wheels, leather upholstery, power seats, dual-zone climate control and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Major options included a sport appearance package, a navigation system, an upgraded Harman Kardon audio system and keyless ignition. Interior accommodations were airy in CLK coupes, thanks to their B-pillarless design, while CLK convertibles had a quick-acting power-operated cloth top. In addition to the extra power, V8 models added a body kit, different-colored interior pieces and paddle shifters for the automatic transmission.

In reviews, we noted that the relaxed driving character of the current Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class made it more of a grand touring car than a sport coupe. The steering was slower than we'd like, but overall, the CLK handled fairly nimbly while riding comfortably. It was plenty quick, too. As a pre-owned option, there's a lot to like in the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class if you value the Benz ownership experience.

Past Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Models

The first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK was produced for the 1998-2002 model years in coupe form, while the convertible was available from 1999-2003. Each debuted as a CLK320 powered by a 215-hp 3.2-liter V6. The CLK430 variant, motivated by a 275-hp 4.3-liter V8, arrived a year later. The high-performance CLK55 AMG coupe and its 342-hp 5.4-liter V8 joined the line in 2001. Its convertible equivalent followed in 2002, and both went away at year's end.

All models had standard leather, dual-zone automatic climate control, SmartKey keyless entry, a Bose cassette stereo, power seats with memory, front seat side airbags and antilock brakes. CLK430 models added 17-inch wheels, aero enhancements and different-colored interior items. CLK55 AMGs went further with a stiffer suspension, performance exhaust, xenon headlights, a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, multicontour front seats, front seat heaters and a rear sunshade.

The first changes came for 1999, when stability control became standard on the CLK430 and optional on the CLK320. In 2000 this safety feature became standard across the board, as did Mercedes' new TeleAid emergency communications system. Also, the five-speed automatic transmission on all models gained a manual mode.

The original Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class didn't drive as nicely as the current one. Power wasn't the issue, as all CLKs of this generation were fine performers. In reviews at the time, we took issue with the transmission, which often second-guessed the driver's intentions and delivered badly timed shifts. In addition, the brake pedal was on the spongy side, and the CLK's old-fashioned recirculating-ball steering setup was numb and heavy. On the highway, the car always felt solid and composed, however. Actual braking distances were excellent, too. Besides that, the CLK55 AMG coupe was then the quickest production Benz in history, hitting 60 mph in 5 seconds flat.

Our gripes on the inside concerned the lack of a tilt steering wheel, limited rear-seat headroom and the complexity of many of the controls. CLK Cabriolets suffered from cramped rear legroom, mediocre rear visibility and a power top that wasn't fully automatic (all of which were improved on the second-generation CLK).

In general, we still think the BMW 3 Series coupes and convertibles of the time were more rewarding cars to drive, not to mention less expensive. Still, if we were buying a CLK, our choice would be either the CLK320 or the CLK430. The Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG, as fast as it was, didn't offer a big enough performance enhancement to justify its price hike.

The old GM might have been a bad car company, but it was launching some seriously good cars, especially (but not limited to) the ones developed at Opel in Germany. The Opel Insignia is current European Car of the Year, which bodes well for the related Buick LaCrosse and Regal. Now Opel has done it again with the new Astra. Honestly it's one of the best compact hatchbacks made anywhere in the world, a car fit to take on the VW Golf for refinement and driving ability.

But for Americans, the meaning of all this is uncertain. The Astra was originally supposed to provide the basis for a Saturn and a Saab, but GM has jettisoned those brands, as well as Opel itself.

Of course, New GM might well have access to this platform. At this writing, an MOU has been signed with Russia's Sberbank and Magna that will give New GM a 35-percent stake in Opel. How it might use it is uncertain, and even the final signing of the Magna deal is not a foregone conclusion.

The 174-inch Astra has a three-inch-longer wheelbase than its predecessor, the car sold unsuccessfully here as the Saturn Astra. It also has a much more sweeping look. Distinctive elements include arrowhead jewelry in the light clusters, a sculpted blade in the bodyside, and strong shoulders. The photo car wears 19-inch wheels, though our tester has more reasonable 225/50 17 tires.

The interior derives much of its upscale feel and design from the Insignia. The sweeping center stack has finger-friendly switchgear that manages to carry out a wide range of tasks without the need for an iDrive-type controller. Habitability is helped by an array of cabin storage, including a big console bin enabled by the presence of an electric park brake switch instead of a foot-long manual handle.

Ex-GM product czar Bob Lutz used to talk about producing vehicle architectures with the flexibility to use a set of different suspensions, depending on how premium the result needed to be. The Astra is an example. It's the same platform as the Chevy Cruze, but the suspension gets some notable refinements. At the front, it has the same lower control arms as the Cruze, but there are supplementary rebound springs in the suspension to take the load off the front anti-roll bar and reduce understeer. At the rear, the torsion beam axle is supplemented by a Watts linkage, which affords better axle articulation than the more typical (and cheaper) Panhard rod. This design allows the bushings that take the lateral loads to be separated from those that take the longitudinal. The former are stiff -- for handling finesse -- while the latter are soft for ride comfort.

The 2011 Range Rover Evoque has finally been unveiled today with the company releasing the full specs of the new model, together with a new and comprehensive image gallery. The 2011 Range Rover Evoque will be avialbale with either a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, which will be sild in two versions, with 190PS or 150PS. The front-wheel-driver Range Rover Evoque powered by the 150 PS 2.2-liter engine will offer a 130g/km* CO2 emissions level and a 58mpg fuel economy. The foru-wheel-drive version powered by the same engine oofers 50mpg* and sub 145g/km* CO2.

The Range Rover Evoque will also be available with a 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine developing 240PS. With this new engine, the Range Rover Evoque is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.
The Range Rover Evoque will be available with a full-sized glass panoramic roof, with Adaptive Dynamics featuring MagneRide, and with the Land Rover Terrain Response system.

Some shoppers might appreciate the Sebring’s against-the-grain styling, but others will find it just plain ugly. Reviewers are split on styling for both the sedan and Convertible versions of the 2010 Chrysler Sebring, but TheCarConnection.com could more easily find negative comments than positive ones regarding its appearance inside and out.

Autoblog doesn’t spare any words, calling the 2009 Sebring Chrysler "sedan just plain difficult to look at without flinching." Jalopnik joins the bashing, saying, "Congrats to the Chrysler team for taking a car that distinguishes itself for lackluster performance and giving it a body to match." Cars.com notes, "From the hood to the back, the Sebring has a number of different design elements in play. There's a strong crease in the side doors and an arcing C-pillar that descends into a stubby rear deck." They add, "I don't find the Sebring especially attractive." Car and Driver bemoans, "It doesn't even look that good, which is disappointing given that Chrysler used to have a reputation for excellent styling, not to mention the Sebring's handsome predecessor."

Cars.com is one of the few fans of the Chrysler Sebring sedan exterior. However, the reviewer can only muster "nice looking" as a compliment, and even that has a caveat from their reviewer: "I have nothing against a distinctive design, but I definitely feel younger than the Sebring's target market."

Reviewers are more split on the 2010 Chrysler Sebring Convertible’s styling. Kelley Blue Book has praise for it, describing it as “elegant” and noting its “egg-crate” grille and large headlights. MotherProof calls the convertible "sharp looking," but asserts that the design is targeted at older drivers with its "large grill" and "boxy feel." Cars.com discusses the “lean lines” that “stretch the convertible,” adding that the two-door convertible do not have the “squatty look of the sedan.”

Yet there's still plenty of active dislike. Jalopnik is highly critical of this vehicle’s styling, commenting that “it took a keen eye, some serious hallucinogenic substances and a love of the George Foreman Grill to make the already ‘fugly’ Chrysler Sebring even less fetching.” The Los Angeles Times levels a scathing indictment: “It makes me long for the exquisite craftsmanship of the Pontiac flipping G6 [a car that’s now been discontinued]…and the Sebring Convertible is homely, too.” The rear end is “cantilevered gracelessly over the rear wheels,” as if “it's had unholy congress with an El Camino.”

Inside, the overall styling of the 2010 Chrysler Sebring is better received, though it’s still not all good news. Kelley Blue Book declares that the 2010 Sebring's "passenger cabin [is] defined by clean, contemporary styling and a generous helping of metallic-looking trim." In addition, though it's perhaps not "as warm or welcoming as some of its competitors...it's comfortable and attractive nonetheless." Car and Driver assesses that the "interior design and materials are subpar." Damning with faint praise, Motor Trend chimes in with the opinion that the Sebring Chrysler 2009's "interior isn't bad aesthetically"—far better than MyRide.com's blunt "unattractive inside and out."

Conclusion

Although it’s not ugly, the 2010 Chrysler Sebring has an interior that isn’t particularly inviting and an exterior that’s downright ungainly in the Convertible.

The 2008 Chrysler Sebring lineup gains an all-wheel-drive sedan and a 2-door convertible. The new Sebring convertible comes with a power soft top and heated glass rear window and offers an optional power-retracting hard top.

It’s Friday and Mercedes news is a little light, so we figured we’ll take a moment to publish some of the more unfounded Mercedes rumors that have been circulating the internet as of late. First up are a few renderings depicting the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, a model that will be manufactured both in Germany and at Mercedes’ Tuscalossa, Alabama plant when it enters production. At this point, virtually nothing is known about the 2014 C-Class and the closest thing we have to the actual model are spy photos of its upcoming mid-life revision; nevertheless, sketch artists couldn’t help but guesstimate what the new model will look like.

In addition to the renderings, there’s a fair bit of conjecture pertaining to the 2014 C-Class accompanying the sketches. A diesel hybrid and straight plug-in hybrid are both mentioned as viable possibilities, as is a new three-cylinder power plant. At this point, we’re not going to make any assumptions, other than the fact MBUSA would have to be crazy not to release at least form of a C-Class hybrid in the next model release. Mercedes-Benz has released the first official pictures of its new SLK. The third generation roadster is all-new, and arrives in the UK later in 2011 with smaller, more efficient engines.

As with its predecessor, the new Mercedes-Benz SLK clearly draws inspiration from Stuttgart’s current flagship supercar. Gone is the pointed nose of the outgoing Mercedes SLR McLaren-mimicking SLK, replaced by influences of the new SLS AMG supercar. The oversized grille sits almost vertically upright and way ahead of the all-LED headlights, elongating the bonnet to make the front end of the SLK more powerful and dramatic.

Working rearwards, the SLK exchanges drama for subtlety, the tail lights a little inset from the bodywork to make the naturally bulky rear end seem smaller than it actually is.

Powering the new SLK at launch is an all-petrol naturally aspirated line up. Buyers can choose from two 1.8-litre four-cylinder units, the 181bhp SLK200 or 201bhp SLK250. The more power hungry can also opt for the SLK350 with its 302bhp 3.5-litre V6, a brand new, from the ground up engine which boasts an identical power output to BMW’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo Z4 sDrive35i, an arch rival.

All SLKs get Mercedes’ BlueEfficiency badge thanks to the employment of stop/start tech as standard, while the two most powerful engines get a seven-speed 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox as standard (it’s an option on the SLK200).

With 7G equipped, the SLK200 is the most economical roadster in its segment, returning 46.3mpg, yet it still manages a 7.0sec 0-62mph time and 147mph top speed. The SLK250 returns 45.3mpg while hitting 62mph in 6.6sec and a 150mph top while the most powerful model, the SLK350, dashes to 62mph in just 5.6sec and is good for 155mph. Thanks to the new V6’s direct injection technology it will also return an impressive 39.7mpg, compared to its rival Z4’s 31.9mpg. Whilst this is the most powerful Mercedes SLK at launch, it should not be long before AMG shoehorns in a tune of its new 5.5-litre V8 to make a miniature SLS…

Conventional steel suspension comes as standard, with a sports suspension option with harder springs and dampers to crank up the drivers' car credentials. This can then be further upgraded to the Dynamic Handling package that offers continuously adjustable dampers, speed sensitive steering and torque vectoring brakes. The latter sends more force to the rear brake on the inside of the bend, further stabilising the car.

Inside, the cabin isn’t worlds apart from the outgoing SLK - the driver and passenger are buried deep inside the cockpit, separated by the silver centre console. However, the dash is now more geometric and is no longer darkened by an abundance of black plastic, whilst the four circular air vents not only mimic the Mercedes SLS but also hint at Mercedes models of the 1970s and ‘80s.

Once again, the Mercedes SLK employs the use of a folding metal hard-top roof. This time, however, Merc offers it with the option of the newly developed ‘Magic Sky Control’. This not only introduces a panoramic glass roof to the roadster, but also allows drivers to switch between clear and blacked-out roof glass at the touch of a button. Standard models, however, will still be offered with a full metal roof.

Other clever Mercedes tech available on the new SLK includes an Attention Assist drowsiness detection system, intelligent lighting and a speed limit assist system that alerts drivers to the maximum speed at their current location.

The latest Mercedes SLK will hit UK showrooms in June 2011. Whilst prices and specifications have not yet been confirmed, it shouldn't deviate too far from the current SLK’s starting price, which is just shy of £31,000. That keeps it close to its key rivals, the BMW Z4, Audi TT and Nissan 370Z. Find out which of that lot we rate the most in our group test here.

Despite enduring a string of financial hardships, Land Rover still enjoys one of the clearest and most robust brand identities in the automotive kingdom. The English automaker has held the same core values since the company's first off-roader was created by Maurice Wilks in 1948. Wilks reportedly designed the first Land Rover to emulate a Jeep he had driven, and the first Land Rover prototype actually utilized a chassis borrowed from that legendary American off-roader. And much like Jeep, when you think of Land Rover, the words rugged, purpose-built, and capable are sure to come to mind, but the two storied marques part company when it comes to luxury amenities. England's four-wheeling pride and joy can be found in places like Africa, the Middle East, Australia's Outback and as well as the ritziest precincts of Beverly Hills and Monte Carlo.

While the core identity of Land Rover hasn't deviated much over the years, its product lineup has grown substantially. After Ford purchased Land Rover from BMW in 2000, the brand added the supremely capable LR4 and Range Rover Sport to a struggling lineup. The Sport traces its looks and name to the top-end Range Rover model, but its underpinnings are actually based on the LR4, with an integrated bodyframe semi-monocoque construction for a combination of rough and ready off-roading and good noise isolation characteristics.

The sportiest of Range Rovers has been a solid entry in the luxury mountain climbing segment for a half-decade, but the folks at Land Rover have given the Sport a very thorough update for 2010 to help it live up to fast and flashy new competitors like the Porsche Cayenne and BMW's X5/X6 M twins. We were able to get our hands on a new 2010 Range Rover Sport with the company's new Jaguar-derived supercharged 5.0-liter V8 to see if it's as accomplished on paved streets as it is off-road. Land Rover introduced the new 2010 Range Rover Sport as it comes with three all new engines, a 3.0 liter twin turbo diesel, 5.0 liter V8 petrol and a high performance supercharged petrol. The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe is the latest addition to the lineup of Cadillac's best-selling cars. The 2-door coupe joins 4-door sedan and wagon body styles, which see no major changes for 2011. The coupe seats 4 while other versions seat 5. The sedan and wagon reprise 3.0 and 3.6 trim levels. Depending on body style and drivetrain, trim levels include Base, Luxury, and Performance. The coupe comes as the 3.6. The 3.0 uses a 270-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine. The 3.6 has a 304-horsepower 3.6-liter V6. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on 3.0 sedans. It's offered as a credit option on 3.6 coupes and sedans. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard on all wagons, coupes, and 3.6 sedans while remaining optional on the 3.0 sedan. Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is available on all body styles. The high-performance CTS-V sedan and coupe are powered by a 556-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V8. It teams with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. A CTS-V wagon is due in calendar 2010. The CTS-V has GM's Magnetic Ride Control suspension, which automatically adjusts firmness within two driver-selectable modes. "Performance Traction Management" is available on CTS-V. This system is similar to GM's Stabilitrak antiskid system, but it is set to aid performance in spirited driving. The V has an upgraded interior that includes available Recaro-brand seats with 14-way adjustment and a suede-like microfiber wrap for the shift lever and steering wheel. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Available features include steering-linked headlamps and keyless entry and ignition. A navigation system is standard on the CTS-V, optional otherwise. Coupe ratings are based on preview test drives.
